The Guidance Office is contacted on a regular basis with a variety of scholarship opportunities for students to take advantage of. Below is a listing of the current scholarship information that we are aware of, please check back occasionally for additional opportunities.



~ Mixed Deadline ~

The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)is offering high school students an international stage to exhibit their work; the SCAD Challenge seeks the next generation of talented artists and designers. High school seniors and juniors compete to showcase their work at SCAD signature events, and may become eligible for scholarships to SCAD, the most comprehensive art and design university in the world. KFC Colonel's Scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to apply to the KFC Colonel's Scholars Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. Visit www.kfcscholars.org for an online application or call toll-free 1-866-KFC-7240. Applications will be accepted from December 1, 2010 to February 9, 2011.


Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! 2011 College Scholarship Program. One $10,000 scholarship will be made by Random House Inc. and the Dr. Seuss Estate to your choice of post-secondary educational institution. Applicants must be 12th grade high school students graduating spring 2011, age 21 years or under. Applications will be accepted between November 1, 2010 and January 15, 2011.


The Dell Scholars Program is about you, and your determination to succeed. This is a program that looks beyond academic performance and grades. You don’t need the highest grades to apply. It rewards your determination to achieve great things through higher education. Visit http://www.dellscholars.org/ for more information and the online application. Applications will be accepted from November 1, 2010 to January 15, 2011.


Snayberger Memorial Foundation: Scholarship applications for this scholarship will be available December 15, 2010 to any student who resides in Schuylkill County. Applications may be picked up at any of M&T Bank’s branch locations in Schuylkill County beginning December 15, 2010 up to and including February 28, 2011. Application deadline is February 28, 2011, do not wait until the last day to pick up your application, this deadline will be strictly enforced. All applications must be mailed in, no drop offs will be accepted.


2011 – 2012 Fred Smith Golden Rule Scholarship, Bloomsburg University: The Golden Rule Scholarship was established by Fred G. Smith to financially assist students to acquire a higher education. Incoming freshmen must submit their admission application by January 5, 2011 for summer and fall semesters to be considered for this scholarship. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be submitted by February 16, 2011. Students must be a senior at or graduate of Nativity BVM High School, Marian Catholic High School, Mount Carmel Area High School, North Schuylkill High School, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School, or Shenandoah Valley High School. Applicants must also be a resident of Ashland Borough, Mount Carmel Borough, Mount Carmel Township or Shenandoah Borough. If you qualify, please stop in the guidance office to request a nomination form. Applicants must be nominated by the guidance counselors or school principal. Deadline for submission is March 1, 2011.


~ January 2011 Deadline ~

Applications for the Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarships are available. For scholarship requirements and application, please visit the Central Pennsylvania Mensa Foundation. Application deadline is January 15, 2011.


Wal-Mart Dependent Scholarship – If you are a dependant of a Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. associate (employee) who has been actively employed with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for at least six consecutive months as of March 29, 2011 you are strongly encouraged to apply for the $3,000 Wal-Mart Dependent Scholarship opportunity. Applications will be considered on the following criteria: financial need, academic achievements and records and school/community activities/leadership. ~ February 2011 Deadline ~

The Marie Bossler Phi Delta Kappa, Kutztown Chapter Scholarship Fund is available for high school seniors who attend a Berks or Schuylkill County high school and intend to pursue an undergraduate degree in the field of education. Students need not be planning on attending Kutztown University to apply. Complete details about the scholarship and an application can be found on the Berks County Community Foundation website at www.bccf.org. Application deadline is February 1, 2011.


The Lehigh Valley Section of the Society of Women Engineers is currently accepting scholarship applications for top prospective female students graduating from area high schools and enrolling in engineering at a college or university. Please stop in the guidance office for further details along with an application. Application deadline is February 14, 2011.


There is a scholarship opportunity for seniors who have been affected by Alzheimer's disease. Students can go to www.afateens.org to learn more about this scholarship. Application deadline is February 15, 2011.


AXA Achievement Community Scholarship applications are available at www.axa-achievement.com. Download an application now for a change at a $2,000 college scholarship. Application deadline is February 15, 2011.


The Best Buy @15 Scholarship Program is available for graduating high school students in grades 9-12 who will be attending a college, university or vocational school in the U.S. or Puerto Rico in the fall immediately following their high school graduation. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic achievement, volunteerism efforts and work experience. Best Buy Children's Foundation will award up to 1,200 scholarships of $1,000 each. All applications must be submitted electronically by 9:00 a.m. EST on February 16, 2011. For more information or submit an electronic application, please go to www.at15.com.


Applications for the Daniel Fox Youth Scholars Program to be held at Lebanon Valley College this summer is available in guidance. Scholars must be nominated by a teacher or guidance counselor who should help them choose one of the programs. Teachers and guidance counselors must send nominations to Lebanon Valley College by February 18, 2011. Please visit www.lvc.edu/youth-scholars/about.aspx for additional information and application.


The PACB Foundation is pleased to announce that the PACB Scholarship Fund is making available up to five $1,000 renewable scholarships for the 2011 – 2012 academic year. This program is designed to assist children of bank employees working a minimum of 1,000 hours or more per year and/or directors of PACB’s member institutions. For a listing of PACB members, please stop in the guidance office. Application deadline is February 18, 2011.


Every year, PSECU offers six $6,000 scholarships to members graduating high school. Each recipient receives $1,500 per year over a four-year period, providing scholarship requirements are met. For more details, please visit www.psecu.com. Deadline noon February 28, 2011.


~ March 2011 Deadline ~


The Schuylkill Area Community Foundation will be offering several scholarships for students who will be graduating, or have already graduated from North Schuylkill High School. Lavelle Amvets Post #156 Scholarship: Scholarship is open to residents of Butler Township, Schuylkill County; is a child of a member of the AMVETS or of a member of the armed forces of the United States on active duty and is attending or will attend a post secondary college, university or trade school. Deadline for receipt of all applications and accompanying back up materials is no later than 12 noon on March 1st.


United Steel Workers of America, Local No. 14372 Scholarship: This scholarship is offered to provide scholarship assistance for education above the high school level to the children, step-children, adopted children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren and adopted grandchildren of the present members and also of the former members, now retired, of the United Steel Workers of America, Local No. 14372. Deadline for receipt of all applications and accompanying back up materials is no later than 12 noon on March 1st.



Susquehanna University announces the Odenath-Schmidt Scholarship. This is a full scholarship opportunity for a student entering the Sigmund Weis School of Business. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who will be active in Susquehanna's multicultural community. Students must apply for admission to Susquehanna University by March 1st in order to be considered for this scholarship.


The Pennsylvania Land Surveyors’ Foundation announced the continuation of its Scholarship Program. Applicants must be enrolled in or be accepted in a two-year Surveying Technology Program or a four-year Bachelor of Science Program in Land Surveying. ~ April 1, 2011 ~
Students who are in the top 5% of the senior class are eligible to apply for the Federal Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship. For an application and more information regarding this scholarship, please visit www.pheaa.org . Application deadline is April 1, 2011.




~ Miscellaneous ~
2011 Masonic Scholarship information can be found at www.pmyf.org. Scholarship types and deadlines vary. A relationship to a Pennsylvania Mason or membership in a Pennsylvania Masonic-sponsored youth group is a basic requirement for all awards.
